About This Destination

The Islamic Cultural Centre in Bar — which includes the Selimija Mosque — was officially opened in 2014. With a total area of 4,000 m², it is the largest Islamic building in Montenegro and one of the largest in the Balkans. Construction was financed by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

The mosque, with a capacity of 1,200–1,500 worshippers, covers 600 m². The ground floor of the complex contains a conference hall, offices, classrooms for Turkish, English and Arabic courses, a kindergarten, a library and a restaurant.

The centre is open to all visitors and represents an example of cultural dialogue.
