Beška Monastery
About This Destination
Beška Monastery is located on an island of the same name in Lake Skadar. The monastery church dedicated to St. George was founded by Đurađ II Stracimirović-Balšić, while the church dedicated to the Annunciation was founded by his wife, Jelena Balšić.
The monk Nikon of Jerusalem wrote the famous Gorički Zbornik (Gorički Collection) at the monastery. The founders Đurađ II and Jelena Balšić are buried in the church; Jelena was canonised in 2006 by the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral.
The monastery is reached by boat from Donji Murići.

💡 Visitor Tip
The monastery is reached by boat from Donji Murići (45 km from Bar). Modest dress is recommended for entry. Morning visits are the most peaceful.
